While interacting with young entrepreneurs, I get a chance to talk to so many people and I keep hearing the same thing:
“I want to start an e-commerce site, but my budget is super tight.”
So, I want to suggest a simple, step-by-step plan. And if you find it interesting, maybe this is how you can start.
But first, one important thing:
Even if you say,
“I don’t need something big like Daraz or Amazon…”
You still need to understand that e-commerce is a complete system.
So yes, the cost is naturally a bit higher than a basic static or dynamic site.
Start small. Just showcase your products.
Forget the cart and checkout — for now.
Focus on:
Clean product images
Short, honest, keyword-rich descriptions
Real prices and stock info
Simple, mobile-friendly layout
This helps your website start showing up on Google and lets customers explore what you offer.
Remember: Just because your website is live doesn’t mean people will visit.
You still need to promote it on social media, through word of mouth, local groups, and more.
Let your site run for 3–6 months.
Use tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console.
Track:
Are people visiting?
What pages get the most clicks?
Where are visitors dropping off?
What keywords are people searching when your site appears?
All this data helps you understand your website's performance.
If the traffic is good, that means customers are visiting and maybe it's time for the next step.
Once you start seeing traffic, try adding a guest checkout.
You don’t need a full customer management system yet.
Yes, you won’t collect much customer data, but that’s okay it’s hit and trial for now, and you’re on a limited budget.
This helps you test:
Who’s actually ready to buy?
If you start getting orders that’s your green signal to move forward.
Now that sales are coming in, allow account creation: signup and login.
This is where the real game starts.
Start collecting:
Customer names
Emails
Addresses/ phone number
This helps build your customer base and makes future marketing easier.
You can offer Cash on Delivery if your budget is still tight.
Otherwise, you can now integrate a payment gateway like eswea, etc.
But make sure:
Your team can fulfill orders
You can handle customer queries
You’re tracking payments and deliveries properly
E-commerce is a system — but manpower is still important.
You need someone to track orders, payments, and shipping in detail.
A smooth checkout experience builds trust.
Now that your system is stable, start adding features like:
✅ Inventory tracking
✅ Discount codes
✅ Sales analytics
✅ Email marketing
✅ Abandoned cart recovery
✅ Auto-offers for repeat buyers
Most e-commerce platforms already have these — you just need to activate and use them wisely.
