Sharing New Year's Gift to 173 Students & Electricity to a Family

Introduction

Imagine receiving a late New Year’s gift – a backpack filled with notebooks, stationery, chocolates, warm tracksuits, socks, gloves, and a cozy hat perfect for the winter school assemblies. This heartwarming surprise came true for 173 students at Kyablungthang Secondary School, Sindhupalchowk, thanks to One Tech Nepal’s special New Year’s school project. But our efforts didn’t stop there. We also brought light into the lives of a family in the same region, delivering electricity to a home for the very first time. This is a story of education, warmth, and empowerment—both through knowledge and access to basic resources.

A Special New Year’s Gift for 173 Students

At the start of the year, we wanted to bring joy to the children of Kyablungthang Secondary School in Sindhupalchowk. Through our school project, we distributed much-needed school supplies and winter clothing to 173 students. Each student received:

  • Backpacks filled with copies and stationery
  • Chocolates to sweeten their day
  • Warm tracksuits, socks, gloves, and hats

These gifts were carefully selected to provide not only practical items but also a sense of care and support. As the winter chill set in, the warm clothes brought comfort to the children, allowing them to focus on their studies without worrying about the cold.

Illuminating Lives: Bringing Electricity to a Family in Sindhupalchowk

In addition to the educational gifts, One Tech Nepal took a monumental step towards improving the lives of a family in the region. Rita Gurung (name changed to protect identity), a young girl whom we sponsor for her education in Kathmandu, lives in a village that had access to electricity. However, her family couldn’t afford the setup to bring it into their home.

Thanks to our efforts, Rita's family now enjoys the gift of electricity for the first time. This simple yet life-changing gift means that:

  • Dinner is now served under the light, making evenings more comfortable and safer.
  • Rita’s brothers can do their homework in well-lit rooms, creating an environment that fosters better learning.
  • The family can now enjoy basic comforts that many take for granted, like the ability to read at night, use appliances, and stay connected.

For most, electricity might be an everyday convenience, but for Rita’s family, it’s a celebration of new possibilities. It’s a symbol of hope, progress, and the bright future ahead, not just for them but for their community as well.

The Connection: Empowering Education and Supporting Families

This project was not just about giving a family electricity; it was about making sure that the educational journey we are supporting for children like Rita is also enhanced by the availability of basic resources. Rita’s family lives in the same village where she studied as a child, and by helping them, we’ve made a significant impact on both her family’s life and the community around her.

As part of One Tech Nepal’s commitment to supporting rural students, we continue to work toward bridging the gap in education, access to resources, and technology. This project exemplifies our holistic approach to making a real difference in people’s lives—by helping children in their studies and improving the living conditions of their families.

Conclusion

One Tech Nepal’s New Year’s gift project in Sindhupalchowk was not just about the tangible gifts we provided but about bringing hope, joy, and empowerment. Whether through backpacks and winter clothing for 173 students or providing electricity to a family for the first time, we are proud to be making a meaningful impact. This initiative reflects our dedication to ensuring that every child, no matter where they are, has access to the tools and resources that can help them succeed.

We remain committed to creating positive change, one community at a time.
